Nobody should let the Halloween season pass without participating in the joyful pastime of pumpkin decorations. This includes preschoolers and toddlers, perhaps most especially, since this fun activity teaches them lots of new skills. Consider These Pumpkin-Themed Activities for Preschoolers

1. Pumpkin-Style Bubble Wrap Art – While your preschool child may be too young for pumpkin carving, there are several decorative activities they can enjoy before attempting that when they get older. One of them is bubble wrap art, a delightful way to create wrap prints by using everyone’s favorite squish-able packing material.
2. Pumpkin Coloring Books – Coloring exercises are a great go-to activity any time of year, so it’s a simple extension to carry it over into the autumn season. So, grab some pumpkin or Halloween-oriented coloring books and let your preschooler make a nice seasonal decoration for the refrigerator or window.
3. Pumpkin Rotting Experiments – As we all know, pumpkins don’t last forever, particularly when the weather is unusually warm for October. You can, however, take that opportunity to train your curious youngster on the effects of decomposition. One neat way to do this would be to carve a jack-o’-lantern into the pumpkin and let your preschooler track how it falls apart day-by-day. Don’t forget to take some before-and-after photos for them to help explain the dramatic pumpkin deteriorations.
4. Pumpkin Lego Sets – Then, if your preschooler likes to manipulate Lego pieces, you can also have them take on a Halloween-themed Lego puzzle or similar project. You can find dozens of options online, at various difficulty levels, and without spending a fortune.
5. Counting with Pumpkins – Older children can use pumpkin figurines to learn addition and subtraction. It’s also an easy and exciting way to help the youngest ones begin to count and process quantities for the first time. Do this with either full-size or mini pumpkins or utilize paper cutout versions as you see fit.
6. Pumpkin Playdough – You can never go wrong with Playdough for little ones (provided they understand not to eat it). Did you know you can make pumpkin pie Playdough as well? Yes, and it’s a unique activity you can do along with children of various ages, especially those who show early inclinations toward cooking or crafting.
