Does your family need some ideas for things to do on Father’s Day?
If so, we know of a few you that would work terrifically for fathers of young children, offering ample opportunity for quality time together. These outdoor tasks can take as little as a couple of hours, or last the entire day to commemorate the holiday to the fullest.
Fun & Memorable Outdoor Activities for Father’s Day
- Backyard Camping – Since Father’s Day arrives right in the middle of June, it may be the ideal time for overnight camping around Colorado. For younger children, this could be the first foray into camping. So, it’s a lot of fun to break out all the essentials, perhaps as a preparation for wilderness camping when they get older. Depending on your particular circumstances, you can pitch a tent, sleep in sleeping bags, and experiment with other cool equipment like flashlights, lanterns, bug zappers, marshmallow roasting, and beyond.
- Bike Riding – There is also no shortage of delightful paths and parks for bike riding in areas like Greeley or Windsor. Obviously, you would tailor the biking experience to make it age appropriate. It’s always essential to bring plenty of water and be prepared to rest when you get tired. Finally, don’t forget to ask mom to prepare a nice Father’s Day meal for when you return home.
- Family Picnic – Speaking of food, this might be the best way to enjoy dinner with dad outdoors, weather permitting. In fact, you can use this as a segue into other wholesome activities such as the camping suggestion. Mothers can even enlist the help of their children for preparing dad’s favorite foods for a full-fledged picnic.
- Scavenger Hunts – Here’s a wonderful idea for families who enjoy problem-solving tasks. All you have to do is hide or arrange special items somewhere throughout a park (or backyard), or simply create a wide-open search for various flowers, trees, birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc. This is usually a decent excuse to take lots of commemorative photos as well.
- Other Outdoor Crafts or Projects – Of course, there’s an unlimited volume of art projects and outdoor tasks children can do with their dads. Perhaps your father needs help with painting a fence or cleaning a swimming pool. You can also do outdoor canvas painting, rock painting, gardening, or landscaping. We’re sure you could imagine at least a dozen other profitable ways to spend time outdoors together on Father’s Day.
