What is Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK)?
Universal Preschool Colorado is a state-funded early learning program designed to ensure every child in the year before kindergarten receives voluntary, high-quality preschool.
- 4-year-olds are eligible for up to 15 hours per week of free preschool.
- Some qualifying 3-year-olds may be eligible for up to 10 free weekly hours. This program supports school readiness and is part of Colorado’s commitment to family equity and early development.

Flexible Scheduling
We offer UPK preschool in a variety of schedules to meet the needs of families:
- Half-day programs
- Full-day programs (where available)
- Part-time options for eligible 3-year-olds
- Free meals, snacks, lunch, and wipes included at most sites

Who Is Eligible?
- 4-year-olds by October 1 of the school year are eligible for up to 15 hours/week of free preschool.
- 3-year-olds may qualify for 10 structured preschool hours if they meet specific qualifying criteria.
- Families of currently enrolled children may be able to use UPK funding to offset existing tuition.
