When the month of June comes around, that can only mean one thing…schools will be getting out, and Summer Vacation is rapidly approaching. One of the tasks that parents have on their hands during this particular time of year is keeping their children occupied in a constructive way that doesn’t involve them lounging about in front of the TV and obsessing over video games. Summertime can be a time of enrichment and excitement; these activities are a great way to start. 

The Library 

In an increasingly digital world, it’s crucial that children understand that reading is a great way to expand their knowledge, develop their imaginations, and have a healthy means of escapism. Many libraries offer various workshops geared toward sharpening kids’ reading skills and introducing them to a whole new world of literature. Plan a day when you can take your child to the library, get them a card, and allow them to immerse themselves in the literary world. 

Art Projects 

Suppose your child is at a certain age where their motor skills are firmly developed and their imaginations are becoming more creative. In that case, it might be time to encourage both aspects by undertaking various arts and crafts. Art supplies are relatively inexpensive and can be appropriated at any craft store. You can start with some basics, such as construction paper and markers, and maybe even get some clay to encourage your child to be creative with different shapes and sizes. 

Nature 

Summer weather was meant to be enjoyed on a large scale. You and your child can explore many different locations while out of school. Naturally, the most popular is the beach, as getting a decent dose of sunlight is a great way to promote mental health and bone density. If you feel like the beach might be too crowded for your liking, there are other alternatives, such as going to the forest for a hike or even going up to the mountains, if any are nearby. Getting out and about and away from digital distractions is a great way to encourage healthy behavior.
